Synopsis
At 2:17 a.m. the final train rattles through a deserted Shanghai metro when a sudden rift of blue light and emerald flame erupts, killing most passengers and granting the survivors unstable abilities. Among them is 28-year-old office drone Lin Yue, who discovers she can phase through solid matter. As the train hurtles onward, locked into an endless loop by the rift, the group must battle both their own escalating powers and a shadowy agency that wants the energy for itself. Yue teams with a burned-out firefighter who shoots plasma and a teenage hacker who rewires electronics with her mind, racing through flooded tunnels and collapsing stations. Each use of their gifts risks tearing reality further, and the rift is spreading to the surface streets above. In the final carriage showdown Yue realizes the only way to seal the breach is to absorb the full blast herself, a sacrifice that could either save or erase everyone aboard.
The story
Lin Yue boards the near-empty final train after a brutal overtime shift. Blue-green fire explodes through the carriage, killing dozens and mutating the survivors. Yue wakes to find she can walk through walls.
The train loops endlessly while powers spiral out of control; survivors form uneasy alliances as government black-ops units board from adjacent cars. Yue learns the rift feeds on negative emotion and will swallow the city by dawn.
In the flooded terminus Yue absorbs the core energy to close the rift, saving the others but leaving her fate ambiguous as dawn breaks over a changed skyline.
